Kansas City Public Library Director Crosby Kemper III has been named 2013 Public Administrator of the Year - Nonprofit by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration.
The award recognizes outstanding performance in the practice or teaching of public administration in the Kansas City metro area. It may be presented in each of five categories: federal, state, local, academic, and nonprofit.
In presenting the award, the society's Emmett Morris observed that thanks to Kemper's "librarian-in-chief leadership, vision, energy, connectedness, and passion, the Kansas City Public Library is very much alive and well and a thriving oasis for the greater Kansas City community, and exemplary of what a 21st century library should and has to be and become.
"For leading the effort in building a larger and growing community of readers and all of the positive exponents that emanate from such an undertaking, it is my great pleasure to present the Greater Kansas City Chapter ASPA Award for Public Administrator of the Year Nonprofit to R. Crosby Kemper III."
Kemper has led the Library since 2005 and is the host of KCTPT-TV's Emmy-nominated series Meet the Past, for which he interviews historic figures (portrayed by local actors) from Kansas City history.
