Mayor Sly James Kicks Off Big Read Podcast, Featuring KC Community Leaders Reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

In partnership with ParkUniversity and the UMKC Communication Studies Department, the Kansas City Public Library presents The Big Read Podcast - an audio recording of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer that is accessible online and features a cast of local luminaries as guest narrators.
The first installment of The Big Read Podcast features Mayor Sly James, with subsequent narrators including: Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts CEO Jane Chu; Kansas City Ballet Executive Director Jeffrey Bentley; UMKC Chancellor Leo Morton; Missouri Senator Jolie Justus; KMBC Channel 9 anchor Donna Pitman; KCPT's "The Local Show" host Nick Haines; Kansas City Star publisher Mi-Ai Parrish as well as Star columnists and editors Miriam Pepper, Steve Paul, Mary Sanchez, and Steve Kraske; KCTV Channel 5 anchor Carolyn Long; New Letters on the Air host Angela Elam; Nelson-Atkins Museum Director Julian Zugazagoitia; and Library Director Crosby Kemper III.
The entirety of Mark Twain's classic novel will be released in daily installments available online at kcbigread.org starting on Friday, September 21. This unique audio recording also features dialogue voiced by Park University theatre students Patrick Kastor and Mindy Reynolds.
