October 2, 2009
The Kansas City Public Library hosts a photo exhibit called Western Ranch and Rodeo Women starting Saturday, October 10, at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Featuring the work of photographer Barbara Van Cleve, this exhibit captures the vanishing lifestyle of the American West through the stories of seven outstanding ranch and rodeo women who live between New Mexico and Montana. These photographs also focus on the everyday reality and resolute strength of modern cowgirls and rodeo women, showing how essentially feminine every woman is even in the tough role she has chosen to live.
Van Cleve is a lifelong photographer and former English professor, as well as author of Hard Twist. She was inducted into the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in 1995.
Admission is free. The exhibit will be on display through November 15.
This exhibit was developed by the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.
