Spend Summer at the Beach With the Surf's Up! Film Series

Stuck as we are in the middle of the continent, Kansas Citians can only dream about relaxing on the beach.

But we can stick our toes in the water - figuratively speaking - when the film series Surf's Up! screens on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. throughout June 2013 in the Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.

Admission is free.

The schedule:

June 3
Big Wednesday (1978)
John Milius' legendary coming-of-age film about three surfers (Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt, Gary Busey).
120 minutes | Rated: PG

June 10
Point Break (1991)
Surfers rob banks to finance their travels to find big waves. Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) directs Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey.
120 minutes | Rated: R

June 17
Soul Surfer (2011)
AnnaSophia Robb plays real-life surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost an arm to a shark but kept riding waves. With Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid.
106 minutes | Rated: PG

June 24
Muscle Beach Party (1964)
Frankie Avalon and the late Annette Funicello are surfers who must battle a businessman who wants to take over their beach. Good dumb fun.
