[5] Not knowing what we really want is very much the subject of Vicky Cristina Barcelona [6], by many accounts Woody Allen’s best film in a decade. This comedy is sexy, thoughtful, occasionally fiery and almost always amusing.
[8] Moneyball [9] is one of the year’s best films, a thinking person’s sports movie overflowing with humor, drama, terrific characters, drop-dead wonderful dialogue and a low-keyed but absolutely wonderful performance from Brad Pitt.
[11] Robert Wise’s Tribute to a Bad Man [12] (1956) rests firmly in the tradition of psychological Westerns. James Cagney stars as Jeremy Rodock, a man who has what his ranch hands call “hanging sickness”... he’s obsessed with stringing up his enemies.
[14] The Hangover Part II [15] isn’t smarter than Bridesmaids and lacks the emotional heft of a truly great comedy like Local Hero or Groundhog Day. But if you’ve got a high threshold for raunch, it’s a hoot.
