Even moviegoers who take little pleasure in the films of James Cameron may find themselves softening up to Ghosts of the Abyss [4], the Titanic director's documentary about exploring the famous sunken luxury liner.

[6] Students of French cinema will recognize Paul Mazursky's Down and Out in Beverly Hills [7] as a remake of Jean Renoir’s Boudu Saved from Drowning. Both men exude an affection for their characters even as they examine their many foibles.
[9] Raise the Titanic! [10] begins with a montage of photos of the ocean liner under construction and setting out on her doomed voyage. After that modest nod to reality, the film quickly turns into a sort of James Bond fantasy.
[12] Few films have a firmer grasp on a time or location than Paul Mazursky’s An Unmarried Woman [13] (1978), a movie that captures not only the look of New York City in the late ‘70s, but the intellectual/emotional feel of the place.
[15] Margaret Brown [16] had a colorful life before the Titanic [17], and a very full one after that notorious maritime disaster. But in the collective memory of popular culture she will always be the “unsinkable” Molly Brown.
