[3] Not knowing what we really want is very much the subject of Vicky Cristina Barcelona [4], by many accounts Woody Allen’s best film in a decade. This comedy is sexy, thoughtful, occasionally fiery and almost always amusing.
[6] Robert Wise’s Tribute to a Bad Man [7] (1956) rests firmly in the tradition of psychological Westerns. James Cagney stars as Jeremy Rodock, a man who has what his ranch hands call “hanging sickness”... he’s obsessed with stringing up his enemies.
[9] Woody Allen [10] is famous for, among other things, wearing his neuroses on his sleeve. He's the focus of Four Films by Woody Allen, the latest edition of the Searching the Psyche Through Cinema series.
[12] Playwright William Gibson's fame was established with Two for the Seesaw [13], a two-character romantic drama. Considerable behind-the-scenes machinations were involved in bringing it to the big screen.
[15] Viewed today, Somebody Up There Likes Me [16] seems way ahead of its time. It’s easy to see how this Robert Wise production provided a road map for other fight movies. It also made Paul Newman a star.
