Friday Night Family Fun hosts Kevin M. Kraft and his Cigar Box Guitars for a fun and educational Blues/Folk concert on Friday, February 24, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
Kraft is a Kansas City singer-songwriter-guitarist whose experience and repertoire spans a number of musical genres that includes blues, gospel, rock, and folk. He discovered the cigar box guitar "by accident" in 2006 and has been extolling the virtues of the instrument ever since, while building a fan base and growing legion of cigar box guitar enthusiasts.
A Kansas City Blues Society board member, Kraft facilitates blues music during school assemblies and teaches school-age children about the history of the blues. Kraft is also an award-winning author, screenwriter, producer, director, actor, and CEO of T E K Productions, a motion picture production company in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kraft will discuss the history of the cigar box guitar from a pre-Civil War era to present day while citing its specific uses in different musical genres. Kraft will also explain how a cigar box guitar is constructed as well as display examples of his own instruments.
All ages are appropriate. Audience members (children only) will be able to enter their names into a drawing during the program for a chance to win a cigar box guitar. (Only one cigar box guitar will be given away.)
Admission for the event is free. RSVP online or call 816.701.3407.
