ACLU Know Your Rights Presentation
Getting an education isn’t just about books and grades – we’re also learning how to participate fully in the life of this nation. But to really participate, we need to know our rights. Knowing our rights is the first important step to using them. Some say if you don’t use them, you lose them. The ACLU is here to tell about those rights, when you can use them, and when public school officials and police can limit them. We will discuss current issues affecting young people, including the right of free speech and expression, student use of the Internet, student privacy, school security and policing, school discipline, and rights and responsibilities during encounters with law enforcement. It takes courage and determination to stand up for your rights. But it is worth it and there are people who can support you when you do!
