In an effort to educate the public on the joy of exercise and healthy eating, the Kansas City Public Library offers weekly Zumba sessions, co-sponsored by the American Heart Association in conjunction with Get To Goal KC, as well as a Healthy Harvest Mobile Market, courtesy of Truman Medical Centers, every Tuesday at the Lucile H. Bluford Branch, 3050 Prospect Ave.
At 6 p.m. beginning January 22, 2013, patrons of all ages and fitness levels can participate in Zumba, a 30 minute choreographed Colombian dance fitness program incorporating hip hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts. Each session offers a healthy snack as well as fun tips and recipes. On the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, nutritional information from Lincoln University is provided.
Before enjoying the moves of Zumba, patrons have the opportunity to shop at Truman Medical Centers Healthy Harvest Mobile Market, located in the Library parking lot from Noon – 3 p.m. The Mobile Market will provide fresh vegetables and fruits while accepting cash, credit/debit cards and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) for payment.
