[5] January 31, 1901: Fire spreads through the Coates Opera House, the center of high society life in Kansas City, damaging it so badly that it will not reopen.
[7] February 22, 1899: Local leaders celebrate as Kansas City gets a building large enough to accommodate large crowds with the opening of Convention Hall, built at a cost of $225,000.
