As a U.S. Senator and President, Harry S. Truman enjoyed a reputation for honesty. Yet his political career was nurtured by Kansas City's Tom Pendergast, leader of one of the country's most corrupt political machines.
The curious relationship between these two men is examined when local filmmaker Terence O'Malley screens and discusses his documentary Tom and Harry: The Boss and the President on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Westport Branch, 118 Westport Road.
The event is part of the Second Saturday series sponsored by the Westport Historical Society.
An area lawyer, O'Malley previously has made the documentary features Nelly Don: A Stitch in Time (about his relation, '30s fashion maven Nel Donnelly) and Black Hand Strawman (about the Kansas City mob).
Admission is free. A reception follows at the Harris House, 40th and Baltimore.
