Great City | Great Read - 2015 Corporate Edition
The Great City | Great Read: Corporate Edition is a Kansas City Public Library outreach program that enables businesses and organizations to “check out a librarian” for an onsite book discussion by fellow employees.
Sessions generally last about an hour, and are held at your workplace at a time convenient for you. The Great City | Great Read: Corporate Edition brings together employees at all levels for a short discussion that puts aside the latest business project and fosters personal interaction on a work of literature. Given that Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is going to be the talk of the town this fall, what better time to fall down a reading rabbit hole?
Joining the Great City | Great Read: Corporate Edition is easy.
- Each participating organization selects a point person who is responsible for recruiting 8–12 fellow employees who want to read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The point person also schedules a time for the book discussion to take place between mid-September and mid-November.
- Participating employees will read the book and participate in a lively, informative discussion led by an expert facilitator. The Kansas City Public Library will provide copies of the books and a librarian discussion leader.
- Your librarian will come with a variety of topics intended to foster an engaging conversation. He or she also will provide biographical information on the multifaceted Lewis Carroll and some background about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
- Participants should come prepared to discuss general themes raised by the book, as well as favorite scenes, passages, and characters. It’s also likely the conversation will consider the differences and similarities between the novel and the numerous film and television adaptations.
