Room guidelines

Guidelines for the Use of Central Library Study Rooms

In support of Central Library's role of actively supporting individuals of all ages pursuing a program of independent learning; and assisting researchers in conducting in-depth study or investigation in specific subject areas, the Central Library provides five study rooms on Level 4 for reading and collaboration.

Sign-up is available by calling (816-701-3433) or by appearing at the Reference Services desk on Level 3 North. Copies of these guidelines are available at the desk. All study rooms are to be used for non-profit purposes only.

The user who reserves the room must present a current Library card at the time a reservation is made and pick up the card at the end of the session.

A study room may be reserved for up to two hours with the ability to renew for an additional hour at a time, if no one is waiting. The exception to this guideline is on Sundays, when all study rooms are reserved in one-hour periods. Study room usage is set at four hours maximum per day.

All rooms with the exception of the largest, Room 415, may be reserved up to twenty-four hours in advance. Room 415 may be reserved up to four weeks in advance. A reserved room will be held for 10 minutes past the start time of the reservation. After that, it is available for others.

A maximum of two people may occupy rooms 413, 414, 416 and 417 at a time. No fewer than three people and no more than five people at a time may occupy Room 415 unless authorized by staff. The lights in the rooms are to be kept on at all times.

Customer behavior expectations for the rest of the Central Library apply in the study rooms. Library staff reserve the right to moderate multiple requests from the same individual or groups so that the most number of patrons may have equitable access to these study rooms. Kansas City Public Library assumes no responsibility for either Library or personal possessions left in the study rooms.
