Description:

A sepia toned photograph of Lester “Charles” Henderson. This image captures Henderson’s left profile, with a bemused expression. Henderson is dressed dapperly in a dark suit, tie, flourish of a pocket square and a newsboy cap. Henderson holds a lit cigarette in his right hand and a monogrammed cigarette case containing the initials “CLH”. The background surrounding Henderson is chemically manipulated, in the darkroom, to accentuate Henderson’s profile. The original print was by Orval Hixon. Hixon was a resident in Kansas City, Missouri from 1903 through 1930, before moving to Lawrence, Kansas
