The third season of the Script-in-Hand series of stage performances, presented by the Kansas City Public Library and Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, wraps up with The Devil and Daniel Webster on Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Stephen Vincent Benét’s The Devil and Daniel Webster focuses on New Hampshire farmer Jabez Stone who, plagued by bad luck, reluctantly agrees to sell his soul to the devil. After seven prosperous years, it is time for Stone to pay the devil, disguised as Mr. Scratch. Stone convinces famed attorney Daniel Webster to argue his case against the devil in an emotional trial that runs the gamut from patriotism to slavery.

Preceding the performance of The Devil and Daniel Webster, The Friends of the Library will commemorate its 25th anniversary with a video tribute to the volunteer group, followed by a post-performance dessert reception open to the public.

The Script-in-Hand series is sponsored by The Friends of the Kansas City Public Library with additional funding provided by the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts.

Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to RSVP.
