Welcome to Film Central! Your KCPL account gives you access to thousands of movies: Films to check out from our Central Vault collection as well as to stream from kanopy and hoopla. Our talented staff, Cullen and James, will announce a movie to discuss at the beginning of each month. You’ll have a few weeks to watch the movie. Then, on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., we will meet on ZOOM and discuss. You can pop your own popcorn, wear your fuzzy slippers (or your dinner jacket) and talk cinema. See you at the movies!

FilmCentral is proud to present Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, a melancholic, heartfelt family drama of motherhood, aging, love and loss set within a beautifully animated fairy-tale fantasy world. The story follows Maquia, one of a fairy-like community who age so slowly that they are nearly immortal, who finds herself the guardian of an orphaned human child when the wars of men breach her idyllic home. Deciding to care for the child despite the knowledge that he will grow old and she will not, the shy and immature Maquia must prove to herself and her adopted son that she can protect and care for their family even as they are hunted by those who would try to steal her immortality for their own. Though there are magic, dragons and royal intrigue, at its heart this is the story of a found family learning to grow and survive in a difficult world, joyful and heartbreaking at the same time, brought to life in a charming style which blends vibrant computer imagery with elegant hand-drawn animation.
