Stand-up Comedy Workshop
We are very excited to announce our first Stand-up workshop!
From the tales of plus-sized shopping to stories of her day job as a high school English teacher, Andrea Caspari brings a unique voice to comedy. Caspari won the Clean Comedy Challenge at the legendary Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena, California and her Dry Bar stand-up special is available now. She was named the Funniest Female Comedian in Kansas City and is a regular at the KC Improv and the Comedy Club of Kansas City. Caspari is a member of the Bored Teachers Comedy Tour and has performed with them on over 90 shows - and counting. She has co-hosted the Teachers Off Duty podcast (available on YouTube). Please check out www.andreacaspari.com for her tour schedule.
Andrea promises a fun and engaging program with plenty of laughs and more than a few eyerolls.
The workshop is a four-part series with sessions from 5:30-7 p.m. on:
- Tuesday, Oct. 24 will take place in Activity Room
- Tuesday, Nov. 7
- Tuesday, Nov. 14
- Monday, Nov. 20
The series has limited capacity and RSVPs are required. Please arrange time for homework and time to meet with your writing partner once a week (another writer in the class will be paired with you).
For the homework sessions you can meet virtually, sign up for a library study room, go to a coffee shop or over happy hour, that will be up to you.
We ask you to bring some original comedy material with you. Pick three topics that you have or wish to explore. We ask these topics to be authentic to you. It’s easier to write about what you know and to laugh about your own situations.
You should leave your thin skin at home as we will literally be judging your comedy. While everything may be on the table for comedy, it is not all appropriate for the library. Please keep your material clean in the workshop and mindful of sexual and racial material. We will have an opportunity after the four sessions to perform at an open mic night off site from the library.
How many librarians does it take to change a lightbulb? Dewey really care?
If RSVPs are full, we will have a waitlist. If you are interested in being added to the waitlist, email Rubyjones@kclibrary.org.
