Under the supervision of the Senior Technical Support Specialist, the ITS Support Specialist and is responsible for providing support to the Library by performing a variety of technical tasks in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and installation of computers and other related Information Systems equipment. Duties include planning and coordinating environment changes for IT and monitoring the helpdesk workflow to improve staff efficiency; performing a variety of Tier 1/2 support activities; answering voice calls and email requests; logging ITS support calls into tracking systems; troubleshooting desktop and laptop computer problems and performing or coordinating repairs as appropriate; participating with other department staff in development and implementation of IT Department projects. The successful applicants will value helping people with their technology and will enjoy learning new technologies used by libraries.
Minimum qualifications include an associate’s degree in information technology-related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience; 2-3 years’ experience in a related field; a working knowledge of computer hardware; knowledge of supporting basic TCP/IP networks; experience installing and configuring Windows 7 and 10, MS Office 2016 and 365, web applications, and other desktop software; intermediate MS Office skills; and the ability to multi-task in an ever-changing environment, managing multiple projects and service requests through a centralized ticketing system. Other minimum requirements include xcellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to lift 50 pounds; vehicle access during the business day; rotating on-call/after-hours support; outstanding customer service skills; and being a strong team player who enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Preferred qualifications include advanced MS Office skills; an undergraduate degree in computer science or related field; previous experience with IT support in the public sector; library experience; A+ certification; and broad knowledge across IT disciplines.
This is a full-time, exempt position with participation in a on call rotation. Starting salary $41,035 plus excellent benefits. Position is open until filled. Kansas City Public Library is an equal opportunity employer.
