Kansas City’s Mark English was a top magazine illustrator for more than four decades, his work appearing in TIME, Sports Illustrated, Redbook, and The Atlantic Monthly, among other publications. The former Hallmark artist in residence also has designed 13 stamps for the U.S. Postal Service.
He joins one of today’s preeminent illustrators, Sterling Hundley, in a discussion of their work and the industry. What does it take to make it big as an illustrator? Is the answer different than, say, 30 years ago?
Hundley, who teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University, counts Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, GQ, The New Yorker, Marvel Comics and the Grammys among his clients.
