(Kansas City, Missouri) - Surveys show that the percentage of Americans with libertarian leanings—preferring to maximize individual rights and minimize the role of government—has grown by a third in the past decade.
In a discussion of The Libertarian Mind: A Manifesto for Freedom, an updated version of his classic Libertarianism: A Primer, Cato Institute Executive Vice President David Boaz examines America's embrace of individual rights on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Libertarian ideology, Boaz said, has gained momentum in the wake of long wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, chronic budget deficits, the costly war on drugs, expansion of executive-branch power, and revelations about National Security Agency abuses.
The event is co-presented by the Show-Me Institute and made possible by a grant from the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation.
A 6 p.m. reception precedes the event. Admission is free. RSVP at kclibrary.org or call 816.701.3407. Free parking is available in the Library District Parking garage at 10th & Baltimore.
