Library to Begin Mayor’s Nights Programming on Saturday
Kansas City, MO - The Kansas City Public Library again joins the Mayor’s Office and Kansas City Parks and Recreation in offering Mayor’s Nights. The mission is to provide safe and fun events for Kansas City youth, ages 12-18, when the city’s summer curfew kicks in. The events begin Saturday, June 10.
Teens can sign up and participate for free. The following programs take place at the Library’s Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St., unless otherwise noted:

- June 10, 6-11 p.m. – Mystery and Mayhem: Escape (21st Century Game Play). Come for a night full of games! Race against the clock as you try to break into a locked box or play a variety of interesting games with your friends.
- June 17, 6-11 p.m. – Library Campout: Friendship to the Max! The Library hosts a campout based on the popular graphic novel series about the Lumberjanes. Teens can earn badges, with prizes for those who collect them all.
- June 24, 6-11 p.m. – The Biggest Smash Bros. Tournament in the World! Eight players go head to head on the Truman Auditorium’s big screen, playing Super Smash Bros. Wii U.
- July 8, 6-11 p.m. – Blow Off Some S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). Come by and explore technology, involving drones and more.
- July 15, 6-11 p.m. -- The Kansas City Youth Empowerment Summit. Join us for the third annual Kansas City Youth Empowerment Summit and learn all about Adulting 101 (it’s not as scary as you think).
- July 22, 6-11 p.m. – Teens on the Fringe. Come and support the next generation of Fringe Fest performers on an evening of spoken word, music, singing, dancing, and film.
- July 29, 6-11 p.m. – Mayor’s Nights in Your Community. Several Library branches hold lock-ins tailored specifically to their communities with unique programming, games, dancing, and food. The locations: L.H. Bluford Branch, 3050 Prospect; North-East Branch, 6000 Wilson Rd.; Southeast Branch, 6242 Swope Pkwy.; Trails West Branch, 11401 E. 23rd St., Independence; Waldo Branch, 201 E. 75th St.
