From Harper’s to “the Great American Internet Novel”

Presented By
Joshua Cohen, Whitney Terrell

Joshua Cohen’s literary imprint grows ever deeper. His fourth novel, Book of Numbers, was named one of the best books of 2015 by The Wall Street Journal and National Public Radio, among others, and proclaimed by Rolling Stone magazine as “the Great American Internet Novel.” The New York Times noted that he “writes the type of angst-ridden, brainiac metafiction that’s led critics to compare him, aptly enough, to David Foster Wallace and Thomas Pynchon.” Cohen joins local novelist and Writers at Work series organizer Whitney Terrell in a public conversation about Book of Numbers, his work as a critic for Harper’s magazine, and his acclaimed story collection Four New Messages. The Writers at Work series is co-sponsored by the Writers at Work Roundtable and the UMKC English Department.
