Jane Austen remains a worldwide cultural phenomenon more than 200 years after her death. Writer and filmmaker Karen Kelleher Bacon discusses that enduring popularity, examining the globalization of Austen’s culture through her literary genius, taste in manners and morals, and standing as a timeless authority on the magic of lovers.

Kelleher Bacon has developed and produced films and television programs for Paramount, Miramax, A&E Networks, and PBS. Her presentation is followed by a screening of the masterful 2007 film adaptation of Persuasion, the last of Austen’s six full-length novels.

The event is co-presented by the Jane Austen Society of North America, Metropolitan Kansas City Region.
