The Library opens a new intergenerational movie series that welcomes individuals with dementia, their friends, and families.
The 1956 comedy-drama The Red Balloon is perhaps the most acclaimed short film of all time, a nearly wordless story about a young boy in Paris who discovers a stray balloon with a life of its own. Live music and fresh popcorn enhance the moviegoing experience, and an intermission roughly midway through the 34-minute screening features a brief discussion led by Michelle Niedens of the Heart of America chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. There’s also special signage and extra volunteers to assist attendees.
