Summer Reading Festival

The Kansas City Public Library’s Plaza location, 4801 Main St., hosts its first Summer Reading Festival, featuring bestselling author Candice Millard (Destiny of the Republic, Hero of the Empire) from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

Also appearing is Jerry Nevins, a local entrepreneur and one of the founders of Kansas City’s frozen cocktail bar Snow & Co. Nevins is the author of Sloshies: 102 Boozy Cocktails Straight From Your Freezer.

The event – which takes place in the newly remodeled Readers’ Corner – is part of the Adult Summer Reading Program and celebrates the unveiling of new technology, including a digital (ebooks, audio books) version of the Library’s New & Notable collection.

The Library will be giving away copies (while supplies last) of Millard’s Hero of the Empire: the Boer War, a Daring Escape, and the Making of Winston Churchill and Nevins’ Sloshies.

Both authors will sign copies of their books.

The evening also features …
  • A raffle for an iPad Mini
  • Hands on demonstrations of the Library’s newest technology
  • Live music
  • Light refreshments
  • Personalized assistance with your own reading devices
  • Book recommendations by Plaza staff

The event is co-sponsored by Baker & Taylor.
