Jobs at the Library: Open Positions

Kansas City Public Library is recruiting a part time aide for our Plaza Location. The duties of this position include sorting and accurately shelving Library materials; maintaining the general order and appearance of the Library by straightening shelves and clearing tables; and retrieving Library materials for staff and customers. Requirements include the ability to follow oral and written instructions; attention to detail and ability to perform duties with high level of accuracy; a demonstrated ability to learn Library operations and the Dewey Decimal System; and basic computer skills.

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Engagement Operations Administrator, this grant-funded full-time two-year position will focus on building capacity for a volunteer storytime corps along with participation in other initiatives. This position will work collaboratively with other staff members and partnering organizations. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and extensive knowledge of early child development. Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit setting is desired. This is a two-year, grant-funded position.

Under immediate supervision of the Director of Library Outreach and Community Engagement, this position provides information, referrals, and staff support relevant to the service of vulnerable populations or individuals struggling with information poverty. The Outreach Librarian is responsible for working closely with library staff to address the information and access needs of our vulnerable populations system-wide.

The Kansas City Public Library seeks a technical manager for its IT department. The manager supports the IT infrastructure comprised of 250 staff computers, 450 Public Access Computers, and 50 Virtual Machines through an Active Directory 2008 domain. The Systems Manager supervises various IT teams under the organization of the Director of Information Systems to keep critical technology systems running and optimized. 

Under the general supervision of the Central Youth Services Supervisor, this part-time position provides reference, information, community referral, readers advisory, ILL and other basic library services to youth services customers; participates in collection development and maintenance; contributes to the creation and posting of content for the Library’s youth web pages and social media sites; and participates in system-wide programs for youth as a member of the Library’s Youth and Family Engagement Department.
