Bellissimo Barocco

Bellissimo Barocco

Presented By
Kansas City Baroque Consortium

Eighteenth-century Italy was a vibrant source of musical inspiration, and German composers took notice. Especially receptive to the Italian influence were George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Handel visited Florence as early as 1706 and quickly assimilated the lyricism and rhythmic vitality of the Italian style. Though Bach never set foot in Italy, his avid study of the scores of the Italian masters guided him on an ideal itinerary of Vivaldi’s Venice and Frescobaldi’s Rome.

The Kansas City Baroque Consortium launched in 2009 as the city’s only early music ensemble playing centuries-old instruments. Their 60-minute program at the Library titled “Bellissimo Barocco” brings to life the Italian influence that dazzles with melodic originality, imaginative impulses, and instrumental virtuosity.

This special afternoon concert features violinist David Hays, cellist Trilla Ray-Carter, and harpsichordist Nicholas Good with music by Bach, Bononcini, Handel, Locatelli, and Veracini.
