A Triumph of the Spirit- A musical celebrating Harriet Tubman's life

A Triumph of the Spirit on Saturday, March 17th, at 1:00p.m. at the L.H. Bluford Branch, 3050 Prospect Ave. Award-winning playwright Shirley Johnson illustrates the trials and tribulations that forged Harriet Tubman’s faith and solidified her life’s purpose with the semi-musical. Blending humor and drama, the play features a mature, yet witty and vibrant Harriet Tubman, narrating from her childhood, adolescence, and young womanhood. Originally written as a one-woman show in 2003, the production currently has a cast of 15 that includes soloists Tammie May, gospel artist Cynthia Green, and Sadie Cole. Choreographer and Rockhurst student JQ Sirls offers a dramatic interpretive dance while “KC Songbird” Zenobia Smith makes appearances to round out the musical. Admission is free.
