Taking a ‘Collective’ Approach to Equitable Development in KC

Presented By
Tiffany Elder, Terrell “TJ” Jolly, Shawnna Murrell

There are cues, if not outright lessons, that Kansas City can take on equitable city building from North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill “Triangle.”

In the Triangle, developers and contractors work together with realtors, appraisers, lenders, attorneys, residential and commercial property owners, and others to create a positive impact on both the supply and demand sides of the real estate market. The Collective, as the consortium is called, also looks to ensure minority involvement in those activities.

Durham-based realtor, developer, and community leader Tiffany Elder has co-chaired The Collective since 2018. She talks about its work, and hers, and joins two Kansas City-area business leaders in a panel discussion: Shawnna Murrell, broker-owner of the Murrell Homes Real Estate Group; and Terrell “TJ” Jolly, the managing partner of Integrity Capital Management. Both are active in promoting equitable development – meeting the needs of underserved communities while fostering smart, healthy growth – in Kansas City

The presentation continues the Library’s Making a Great City series. It is co-presented by Multistudio (formerly Gould Evans), the Hall Family Foundation, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, and Verimore Bank.
