Art Starts at the Library

Begin your First Friday outing at the Central Library, enjoying a pair of compelling exhibits in its gleaming galleries, refreshments, family activities, live entertainment, and a special, sneak-peek screening of a new documentary about the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical Hamilton.

The first-floor Genevieve Guldner Gallery offers a preview of the new Pictures of the Year International exhibit celebrating the work of the world’s leading photojournalists.

The Rocky and Gabriella Mountain Gallery houses Cuba Bound: Photographs by Jesse A. Fernandez, a selection of evocative photos taken by the renowned Cuba-born photographer.

There are two screenings – at 6 and 7 p.m. – of the first 40 minutes of Hamilton’s America, courtesy of KCPT-TV. The behind-the-scenes documentary airs on PBS this fall.

Families are invited to stop by the Children's Library on the second floor for face painting, arts and crafts, and a 6 p.m. storytime.

From the Library, attendees can head to the streetcar stop at Ninth and Main streets for a quick lift to the Crossroads Arts District.
