Kansas City Repertory Theatre: The Royale

The Kansas City Repertory Theatre brings its adaptation of the award-winning stage drama The Royale to the L.H. Bluford Branch – the last of three performances at different Library locations.

It’s part of the new KCRep for All community tour, designed to bring the magic of theatre into the community, meeting audiences where they live. Performances are staged in public libraries and community and senior centers across Kansas City. All are free.

The Royale, winner of two Obie (Off-Broadway Theater) Awards, tells the story of fictional boxer Jay “The Sport” Jackson as he confronts opposing fighters and personal demons. The play is inspired by real-life boxer Jack Johnson, who became the first African American world heavyweight champion at the height of the Jim Crow era in the early 1900s.
