Public Works? The Cost of Our Aging Infrastructure

For decades Kansas City has had what city leaders described as a very expensive and dangerous headache – a crumbling sewer and stormwater system, flood control issues, and deteriorating roads and bridges. But less than two weeks ago Kansas City voters approved a massive $800 million bond package to address those issues.

The Library and KCPT-TV examine the infrastructure issues behind the bond, what comes next in terms of how the money is spent, and looks into the future of public transit. Kansas City City Manager Troy Schulte and other policymakers gather for a detailed discussion moderated by three-time regional Emmy winner Nick Haines

Joining Schulte in the discussion are Brian Kidwell, assistant district engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City District; Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Joe Reardon; City Councilman Quinton Lucas; and Show-Me Institute's Patrick Touhey.

The event is co-presented by KCPT-TV as part of its multiplatform project.
